A 7-year-old boy died after being bitten by a suspected cobra in Sitio Libertad, Barangay Malinawon, Mawab, Davao de Oro, on Wednesday afternoon, October 9, 2025.
According to Ruel Helicame, head of the Mawab Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the boy went to a grassy area near their home when the incident happened past 2 p.m.
Helicame said the child managed to call for help and warned his mother not to come near because a large snake was still nearby.
The victim was rushed home for first aid treatment but was later declared dead on arrival by attending doctors.
The Rural Health Unit confirmed the boy suffered around 13 snake bites, believed to be from a venomous “banakon” or king cobra.
Local officials have urged residents to remain cautious, especially in areas with thick vegetation where snakes often hide.
Authorities continue to monitor the area to prevent similar incidents.
