Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has assured the public that the fight against corruption in government will continue.
This statement comes after his resignation from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) due to conflict-of-interest concerns related to his concurrent position as city mayor.
In a statement, Magalong said that the battle against corruption will be long, and everyone must be prepared.
He acknowledged that corruption appears to have a strong grip, but stressed that the Filipino spirit of resilience and courage is just as powerful.
He emphasized that the power of the people will always be stronger than the power of a few.
Magalong clarified that there was no conflict of interest in his role as special adviser and investigator within the ICI, but said he stepped down to protect the integrity of the commission in its mission against corruption.
Malacañang has confirmed his resignation and announced that a legal team will review the matter surrounding his designation.
