Army strikes hard against CTG in Caraga, neutralizes 2 and captures firearms

The Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division continues its strong offensive against the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in the Caraga region, resulting in major victories. Following a leadership change, the division’s efforts led to two significant encounters, where two Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) terrorists were neutralized, and three high-powered firearms were seized.

Troops from the 29th Infantry Battalion, under Lt. Col. Mark S. Tabon, clashed with about 10 CTG members in Butuan City’s Barangay Los Angeles. The 10-minute firefight ended with two terrorists killed and an AK-47 rifle, a Bushmaster rifle, medical supplies, and personal items captured.

In a second encounter, the 3rd Special Forces Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Jason F. Pangandoyon, engaged CTG elements twice in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. The first clash led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three backpacks, and medical supplies. In the second, four suspected CTG members were captured and are under verification.

Brigadier General Michele B. Anayron Jr., 4ID Commander, praised the troops’ efforts and reaffirmed the division’s commitment to ending insurgency and ensuring lasting peace for the people of Caraga. He urged remaining CTG members to surrender and embrace the government’s reintegration programs.
