Filipina tennis star Alex Eala will no longer team up with Filipino-American doubles specialist Desirae Krawczyk in the doubles event of the WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan, after their withdrawal from the tournament on Monday.
According to tennis publication Tennis365, Krawczyk is reportedly dealing with a back problem, although neither the player nor tournament organizers has officially confirmed the reason for their withdrawal.
Replacing the tandem are Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva and Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova, who will face Chinese Taipei’s Chan Hao-Ching and Japan’s Miyu Kato in the opening round.
Meanwhile, Eala is set to begin her singles campaign against 17-year-old British wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic.
The Filipina is looking to regain momentum after early exits in Singapore and Wuhan, followed by a Round of 16 finish in Ningbo.
Despite the recent setbacks, Eala has enjoyed a strong 2026 season, highlighted by her maiden WTA Tour singles title at the Mubadala Citi DC Open and a fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon.
