House approves P7.2-trillion 2027 national budget on second reading

The House of Representatives approved on second reading the proposed P7.2 trillion 2027 General Appropriations Act after adopting amendments that provide additional funding for social programs, public works, healthcare and public transportation.

Among the approved funding increases are P13.8 million for Project SAFE, P25 million for Project Aruga and P25 million for ProtecTEEN, all under the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The House also approved an additional P20 million for the DSWD Special Committee on LGBTQIA+ Affairs.

Another amendment proposes an additional P500 in the monthly honorarium of Barangay Violence Against Women, or VAW, Desk officers who have rendered at least six months of continuous service.

The amendments were included as lawmakers advanced the proposed 2027 national budget through the second-reading stage.

The House also expanded the proposed coverage of the Department of Health Medical Assistance Program.

Under the expanded use, the program may cover hospitalization, medical assistance, checkups, emergency and dental services, FDA-approved medicines and professional fees, subject to DOH guidelines.

The proposed P7.2 trillion national budget covers government spending for 2027 and remains subject to further legislative action before becoming law.

The second-reading approval followed the adoption of the amendments covering social welfare, healthcare and other public services.

The additional funding for DSWD programs includes allocations for Project SAFE, Project Aruga and ProtecTEEN. The House also provided additional funding for the DSWD Special Committee on LGBTQIA+ Affairs.

The proposed increase in the honorarium of VAW Desk officers applies to those with at least six months of continuous service.

The expanded DOH medical assistance coverage includes several health-related services and expenses, in accordance with department guidelines.
