A 24-year-old female motorcycle rider died after being involved in a six-vehicle collision at the SRP Viaduct in Cebu City at around 2:45 p.m. Sept. 27.
The victim was identified as Joy, a resident of Lapu-Lapu City.
According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit, several vehicles, including Joy’s motorcycle, were stopped along the outer lane because of heavy traffic.
Authorities said a truck traveling on the inner lane reportedly experienced a brake malfunction.
The truck driver allegedly swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the stopped vehicles but hit Joy’s motorcycle. The rider was then run over by the truck.
The impact caused the motorcycle to be thrown and hit another vehicle, triggering a series of collisions involving six vehicles.
Joy was declared dead at the scene.
Two other people involved in the crash were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The truck driver was identified as Romel. He tested negative in an alcohol breath test and remained in the custody of authorities for investigation and appropriate disposition.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including the reported brake malfunction.
The collision occurred amid heavy traffic along the SRP Viaduct. No further details about the condition of the two injured individuals were provided in the initial report.
