The Land Transportation Office has suspended the license of a motorcycle rider accused of throwing a stone at a child riding a tricycle with his mother on Monday, September 21.
The LTO issued a Show Cause Order requiring the motorcycle driver to explain his side following a viral video that circulated on Facebook.
The video showed the child riding in a tricycle with the mother when the occupants of a Yamaha Mio motorcycle allegedly threw an object at them, causing the child to suffer injuries.
Based on the LTO’s initial investigation, an argument reportedly took place between the parties before the incident.
Authorities also noted that the motorcycle had no side mirrors, while the helmets worn by the rider and back rider were reportedly not authorized standard protective helmets.
Under the Show Cause Order, the motorcycle owner or driver must explain why his license should not be revoked over alleged violations including reckless driving, the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, failure to wear a standard protective motorcycle helmet, failure to require the back rider to wear the prescribed helmet, and operating a motor vehicle without the required accessories.
The LTO had earlier suspended the driver’s license for 90 days and placed the motorcycle under alarm while the investigation is ongoing.
