The first day of the BARMM Parliamentary Elections turned tense after authorities reportedly discovered pre-shaded ballots in Basilan province.
The discovery prompted the Commission on Elections to take control of the affected electoral processes to protect the election’s integrity.
Meanwhile, police tightened security around voting precincts in Cotabato City following shooting incidents reported before election day in the area.
Authorities placed Cotabato City under COMELEC control to strengthen security measures and prevent further incidents during the electoral process.
The Police Regional Office-BAR said security forces continue monitoring precincts and remain prepared to respond to possible election-related incidents.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines and other security forces also deployed personnel across strategic areas to secure polling locations.
Authorities said additional personnel remain positioned in critical areas to help maintain peace, order, and safety throughout the voting process.
Administrators were also assigned in Basilan and Cotabato City to oversee operations under the continuing guidance of COMELEC officials.
Despite these security concerns, authorities urged residents to exercise their right to vote and participate in the historic elections peacefully.
Officials reminded voters not to fear exercising their constitutional right to choose representatives for the Bangsamoro Parliament through today’s elections.
The first regular parliamentary election marks a major milestone following years of transition under the Bangsamoro Transition Authority administration.
Voters are choosing representatives who will form the eighty-member Bangsamoro Parliament and help shape the region’s new elected government.
Authorities continue monitoring the electoral process closely as voting proceeds across BARMM amid heightened security and election-related concerns.
