A mini dump truck fell into the sea while boarding a ship in Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Monday morning, Aug. 31.
The truck was carrying construction materials, including sand and cement, and was being driven by 34-year-old Michael. It was preparing to board a ship bound for Olango Island.
Based on the initial investigation, the ship’s ramp rose because of low tide, causing the truck to move backward and its rope to break.
The truck then slid down the ramp before falling into and sinking in the sea.
The driver was safe following the incident.
Apprentice Seaman Jayvee Toralba of the Coast Guard Lapu-Lapu said the Coast Guard normally conducts safety inspections before a ship travels.
However, because the incident occurred while the truck was still being loaded, authorities are now examining the condition of the ramp and investigating what caused it to rise.
The ship’s operations were temporarily suspended while the investigation continues.
Authorities are assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the condition of the ramp during the loading operation.
