Two employees of Davao Mighty Steel Corporation tested positive for high radiation exposure following a search warrant implemented at the company’s plant Aug. 13, 2026, the National Bureau of Investigation said.
NBI medico-legal officer Dr. Wilfredo Tierra said the two workers were among the personnel examined following the operation at the steel plant.
The NBI also reported health findings among 57 of the 194 personnel who underwent examination. The findings included first-degree facial burns, throat swelling, hypertension and high fever.
During the operation, authorities also discovered radioactive-bearing materials in steel products manufactured by the company.
The NBI further reported finding radioactive-bearing and substandard Davao Mighty Steel reinforcing steel bars that were already available in the commercial market.
The findings prompted the NBI to refer the case against Davao Mighty Steel Corporation to the Department of Justice for appropriate action.
The case involves alleged violations of Republic Act No. 12305, Republic Act No. 6969, Presidential Decree No. 1586 and Republic Act No. 7394.
Davao Mighty Steel Corporation is the fifth of 20 steel plants nationwide targeted in an ongoing crackdown involving defective building materials and hazardous industrial operations.
The NBI’s findings followed the implementation of the search warrant at the company’s plant on Aug. 13.
The reported radiation exposure involved two employees who tested positive for high exposure, while the health examination also identified findings among 57 other personnel.
Authorities have referred the case to the DOJ for the appropriate legal process.
The investigation and proceedings concerning the company’s alleged violations will continue through the proper authorities.
