The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is preparing to request additional funding should the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), scheduled for November 2, 2026, be postponed.
In an interview, COMELEC Chairman George Garcia said the poll body has already spent around ₱8 billion out of its ₱19.57-billion budget for preparations, including the printing of ballots and other election forms.
Garcia said voter registration could be reopened in September if the elections are postponed.
This could increase the number of registered voters, requiring additional polling precincts, teachers, and election paraphernalia.
Despite the possibility of a delay, COMELEC said preparations are continuing, with the agency already about 90 percent ready for the November 2 elections.
