A 19-year-old woman was found dead in a grassy area of Purok Matigdao, Barangay Marayag, Lupon, Davao Oriental, according to initial information gathered by the 103.1 Brigada News FM Mati.
The victim was identified as Mercilyn Saumat, 19, a resident of Purok Bislong, Barangay Marayag. The area where her body was found is adjacent to her place of residence.
Initial information indicated that Saumat had an injury to her head. She was believed to have been struck with a stone, which authorities suspect may have caused her death.
The incident was believed to have occurred on Aug. 19, 2026, while Purok Matigdao was quiet. Most residents in the area were attending the Araw sa Sitio Tiombocan celebration in a nearby sitio at the time.
Saumat was found dead the following morning, Aug. 20, 2026, in the grassy area of Purok Matigdao.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine what happened and establish the circumstances surrounding Saumat’s death.
The investigation is also expected to determine who may be responsible for the incident.
Authorities have yet to establish the full circumstances of the case based on the initial information available.
