A cyclist was injured after being hit and run over by a Land Transportation Office vehicle in Mandaue City on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 12.
CCTV footage from A. Soriano Avenue showed traffic moving normally as two LTO vehicles successively emerged from a corner.
The footage showed one cyclist avoiding the second LTO vehicle. Another cyclist behind him, however, continued forward and collided with the first cyclist.
The first cyclist fell onto the road and was subsequently hit and run over by the LTO vehicle.
LTO-7 Regional Director Atty. Wendel Dinglasan said in an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu that the two sides had reached an agreement following the incident.
Dinglasan also said the driver of the LTO vehicle, a job order personnel, was issued a show cause order and had his driver’s license placed under preventive suspension.
According to Dinglasan, the agency’s assessment found that the LTO driver failed to exercise sufficient caution.
The action against the driver followed the agency’s review of the incident involving the cyclist and the LTO vehicle.
Dinglasan emphasized that the LTO does not exempt anyone from its rules, whether an ordinary citizen, an agency personnel or a politician.
The incident was captured by CCTV along A. Soriano Avenue, where the collision occurred.
The two parties subsequently reached an agreement, according to Dinglasan.
The LTO also proceeded with administrative action against its driver after determining that sufficient caution was not exercised.
The cyclist was injured in the incident after falling onto the road and being struck by the LTO vehicle.
The CCTV footage showed the sequence of events involving the two cyclists and the LTO vehicle before and during the collision.
The case resulted in preventive suspension of the driver’s license and the issuance of a show cause order to the LTO job order personnel.
