Malacañang questioned the basis of Congressman Edgar Erice’s statement that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. could not jail former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in connection with the investigation into alleged anomalies involving flood control projects.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Erice’s statement was based only on his own thinking and lacked facts because he had not directly spoken with Marcos about the president’s position on people involved in the flood control controversy.
“It is something he is just thinking about,” Castro said during a Palace briefing.
Castro questioned whether Erice had directly spoken with Marcos to determine the president’s feelings toward individuals linked to the flood control issue.
She said that if Erice had not spoken directly with the president and did not know his position, he should not speak as though he knew what Marcos was thinking.
Castro also challenged Erice to bring any information he may have about the alleged flood control anomalies to the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Palace official said Erice should present what he knows to the Ombudsman instead of discussing the matter through the media.
Erice had claimed that Marcos could not have Romualdez jailed in connection with the investigation into alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
Castro disputed the basis of the claim, emphasizing that Erice had not directly discussed the matter with Marcos.
