The current caretaker of a dog allegedly beaten to death in Barangay Galicia, Ilog, is seeking justice as questions remain over the circumstances surrounding the animal’s killing.
John Paul Validor, the dog’s current caretaker, said “Sam-Sam” escaped from a steel kennel after reportedly becoming agitated upon seeing a chicken.
He said the dog had been confined for more than three years and had never escaped before.
Validor said he searched for the dog for a couple of minutes before learning that a dog had been killed nearby.
According to Validor, some residents near their house claimed the dog had killed a smaller dog. And because of that, several people beat the dog until it died.
He is calling for justice, particularly regarding the circumstances of the alleged biting, the dog’s death, and the identities of those allegedly involved.
Under Republic Act No. 10631, or the Animal Welfare Act, the killing of an animal is generally prohibited, subject to exceptions recognized by law, including when necessary to prevent an imminent danger to a person’s life or limb.*
