The number of unemployed Filipinos increased to an estimated 2.59 million in June as the country’s unemployment rate rose to 4.9%, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The June unemployment rate was slightly higher than the 4.8% recorded in May, when the number of unemployed individuals was estimated at 2.50 million.
Compared with June 2025, the latest figure also showed a higher unemployment rate. A year earlier, the unemployment rate stood at 3.7%, equivalent to about 1.95 million unemployed Filipinos.
Based on PSA data, the number of unemployed individuals has continued to increase since April.
Despite the rise in unemployment, the country’s underemployment rate declined slightly in June.
The PSA reported that the underemployment rate, which measures employed individuals seeking additional work or longer working hours, eased to 12.1% from 12.2% in May.
The latest figure translates to an estimated 6.11 million underemployed Filipinos.
