Authorities seized suspected giant clam meat worth an estimated ₱3.78 million during an operation in Northern Cebu, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
The operation was carried out by the Coast Guard District Central Visayas in coordination with other law enforcement agencies after authorities received information about the alleged illegal processing of giant clam meat.
According to the PCG, responding personnel proceeded to the reported location to verify the information.
Upon arrival, authorities found an individual who was allegedly involved in the illegal processing of the protected marine species.
The suspect was arrested and placed under the custody of authorities for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
The PCG did not immediately identify the suspect or provide additional details regarding the operation.
Authorities also did not specify the quantity of the suspected giant clam meat recovered during the operation but estimated its value at ₱3.78 million.
The Coast Guard said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to enforce laws protecting the country’s marine resources and wildlife.
The agency added that it will continue working with other law enforcement agencies to prevent the illegal exploitation of protected marine species.
The PCG said interagency cooperation remains essential in safeguarding marine biodiversity and ensuring that violations involving protected wildlife are investigated and acted upon in accordance with the law.
The seizure highlights continuing enforcement efforts against illegal activities involving protected marine resources in Central Visayas.
Authorities have yet to release additional information regarding the investigation and the charges to be filed against the suspect.
