Sen. Ping Lacson said the latest voter preference surveys for the 2028 national elections should be viewed only as a “snapshot” of public sentiment at a particular point in time.
Lacson made the remark in support of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, who recalled his and Sen. Bam Aquino’s experience during the recent midterm elections.
Pangilinan said Aquino finished second in the senatorial race while he placed fifth in the overall vote ranking.
He said the 2028 elections are still far off and stressed that supporters should not lose hope because he believes the Filipino people will continue to support them.
Lacson, although not part of the same political alliance as Pangilinan and Aquino, said he was pleased that both senators won and received strong voter support.
He added that opinion surveys conducted ahead of the 2028 national elections should not be treated as final indicators of the election outcome.
According to Lacson, such surveys merely reflect the voting preferences of respondents during the period when the survey was conducted.
His statement came after the release of the latest Pulse Asia survey on voter preferences for the 2028 national elections.
In the survey, Sen. Robin Padilla ranked first, followed by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Sen. Raffy Tulfo.
The survey results have prompted reactions from political figures as discussions on the 2028 elections continue, despite the vote still being years away.
Lacson maintained that survey results should be interpreted as a measure of public opinion at a specific time rather than a definitive prediction of future election outcomes.
