Cabinet Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. has expressed support for the Department of Foreign Affairs’ condemnation of an AI-generated video released by Chinese state media that has been described as racist and dehumanizing toward Filipinos.
The controversial video reportedly depicts a monkey wearing traditional Filipino attire and appearing to be manipulated by foreign powers.
In a statement, Abalos said any attempt to demean or belittle the Filipino people is offensive and unacceptable.
He backed the DFA’s criticism of the AI-generated videos and editorial cartoons published by China Daily in connection with the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award.
Abalos stressed that racism and the dehumanization of any nation have no place in public discourse.
He added that Filipinos deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and called for responsible and respectful communication in international discussions.
