Government security forces destroyed an estimated ₱6 million worth of marijuana plants during a joint anti-illegal drugs operation in Sitio Bunlak, Barangay Kasapa I, Loreto, Agusan del Sur, on July 4.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the 60th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division in coordination with the Loreto Municipal Police Station, the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, the Agusan del Sur Provincial Forensic Unit, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Authorities said the operation resulted in the eradication of an estimated 12,000-square-meter marijuana plantation.
A total of approximately 23,431 fully grown marijuana plants were destroyed during the operation.
Before the destruction of the plantation, forensic personnel collected representative samples of the marijuana plants for laboratory examination.
The remaining marijuana plants were burned at the site in the presence of the required insulating witnesses to ensure transparency and proper documentation of the operation.
Authorities said the eradication formed part of the government’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs through coordinated law enforcement operations.
No arrests were reported during the operation, and authorities did not identify any individuals allegedly connected to the plantation.
The destroyed plants and forensic samples will undergo standard documentation and laboratory procedures as part of the investigation.
The joint operation involved military, police, forensic, and anti-drug enforcement units working together in the implementation of anti-illegal drug efforts in the area.
Authorities said they will continue conducting similar operations against illegal drug activities across their area of responsibility as part of ongoing law enforcement efforts.
The operation was conducted in Loreto, Agusan del Sur, while the participating military unit is based in Mawab, Davao de Oro.
