Napolcom to probe possible liability of police linked to Tacloban school shooting

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) will conduct a motu proprio investigation into the possible administrative liability of a police officer in connection with the shooting incident at a high school in Tacloban City.

The policewoman is reportedly the aunt of the suspect and is believed to be the owner of the firearm used in the shooting.

In a statement, Napolcom said it has directed Regional Director Risty Sibay of Region 8 to immediately undertake the investigation.

The inquiry will be conducted in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP).

According to the commission, the officer’s alleged negligence in allowing her nephew access to her firearm may have contributed to the deaths of several students.

As a result, the police officer could face charges of grave misconduct or grave neglect of duty, which may lead to suspension, demotion, or dismissal from service, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
