Two Pakistani nationals were killed after a minivan collided with a tractor head truck at an intersection in Barangay Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu on the night of June 10.
The fatalities were identified as Fate, 38, a supervisor who was driving the minivan, and Inayat, 38, an office staff member.
The truck driver was identified as Samuel, 39, a resident of Manapla, Negros Occidental.
According to Mercy Villaro, spokesperson for the Mandaue City Police Office, an initial investigation showed that the traffic light was red on the truck’s side when it suddenly made a left turn, resulting in the collision.
The impact severely damaged the minivan, leaving it heavily crushed.
Both victims sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital. However, they were later declared dead.
Villaro said the two victims were co-workers and were not related to each other.
Authorities said the victims were reportedly on their way home when the accident occurred.
The truck driver is now under police custody while authorities continue their investigation.
Police said the driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
