Visayas grid to be placed under yellow alert this afternoon

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that the Visayas grid will once again be placed under yellow alert status today.

The yellow alert will be in effect from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

According to the NGCP, Units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas, Inc. (TVI) and Unit 3 of Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) remain on forced outage. In addition, all generating units of two major coal-fired power plants are unavailable, significantly limiting the capacity of the Visayas grid.

Several smaller power plants are also on forced outage, further contributing to the supply shortage.

The NGCP reported that six power plants have experienced forced outages this month. Eight plants were on forced outage in May, one in March, three since the start of 2025, two since 2024, two since 2023, and one has been out since 2021.
