DepEd expects student enrollment to reach 26M for SY 2026–2027

The Department of Education (DepEd) is optimistic that total enrollment for School Year 2026–2027 will exceed 26 million students.

In an interview, DepEd Assistant Secretary Joyce Andaya said that the number of enrolled students has slightly declined over the past two years.

However, she noted that enrollment figures typically increase as some students register late.

According to Andaya, some children do not enroll until several weeks after classes have already begun, with others taking as long as a month before registering.

To address this, DepEd has instructed teachers to conduct house-to-house visits to encourage parents to send their children to school as early as possible.

She explained that early enrollment allows students to keep up with lessons from the start of the school year and helps prevent them from missing important classroom discussions and learning activities.
