Former presidential spokesperson Roque pushes back vs BIR complaint

Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has opposed the criminal complaints filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) against him, his wife, and his legal counsel, claiming these are part of a “pattern of actions” that he says are politically motivated.

The BIR earlier filed a tax evasion complaint against Roque over an alleged tax deficiency amounting to P3.35 million.

In a statement, Roque said the complaints are intended to harass and pressure individuals associated with or perceived to be supportive of the Duterte administration.

He added that they view these developments as a serious concern, raising issues on fairness, equal protection, and the impartial administration of justice.

Roque maintained that the complaint is both “legally and factually baseless.”
