LTO admits extortion and bribery allegations involving its personnel

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has confirmed incidents of extortion and bribery involving some of its personnel, following allegations raised by the transport group Manibela.

According to LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, several implicated personnel and officials have already been recommended for relief from their posts and are now facing complaints.

Meanwhile, Lacanilao acknowledged delays in vehicle registrations and franchise renewals, noting that many applications remain pending due to incomplete consolidation processes and the lack of provisional authorities from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

The LTO expressed willingness to hold a dialogue with stakeholders to resolve the issues.
