Two students die after lightning strike in Bohol

Two students died after being struck by lightning in Sitio Maonglinis, Barangay Kauswagan, Trinidad, Bohol, around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 5.

Police identified the victims as Mark and Jobert, both 21 years old.

According to Police Staff Sergeant Rey Adrian Batiansila, investigator of the Trinidad Municipal Police Station, five friends had gathered in a hut to prepare dinner when the lightning struck.

Mark and Jobert were outside the hut cooking chicken when a bolt of lightning hit them. The lightning also struck one of the chickens they were preparing.

Photos from the scene showed a coconut tree severely damaged by the strike.

One other member of the group was rushed to the hospital and later transferred to another facility for further treatment. Survivors said they were thrown off their feet by the force of the lightning.

Police reminded the public to monitor weather advisories and take precautions during thunderstorms to prevent similar incidents.
