Senate Committee on Basic Education Chairperson Sen. Win Gatchalian is pushing for the reduction of teachers’ paperwork, saying it is crucial to addressing the country’s education crisis.
Gatchalian welcomed the announcement by Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara that the agency will cut teachers’ administrative workload by more than half. This initiative aims to allow educators to focus on teaching rather than excessive documentation.
With reduced paperwork, Gatchalian believes students will benefit from better instruction as teachers can dedicate more time to lesson planning and student engagement.
However, the senator also stressed the need for digitalization to streamline workflow processes for both teaching and non-teaching staff. He hopes that the government can keep up with technology to sustain efficiency in the education sector.
