Petition to stop VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial slammed as evasion – Makabayan Bloc

The Makabayan Bloc in the House of Representatives strongly condemned the legal move by Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp seeking to nullify and halt her impeachment trial.

According to Makabayan lawmakers, this is a blatant attempt to evade accountability and explanation regarding the questionable use of millions in confidential funds.

They noted that VP Duterte had previously refused to appear before the House hearings and is now attempting to avoid facing the impeachment court as well.

“The Filipino people have the right to get answers and explanations from the vice president,” the lawmakers said. “If Duterte’s conscience is truly clear, she should face the impeachment court.”

The Makabayan Bloc also insisted that the impeachment complaint is valid and was filed in accordance with constitutional requirements.

With this latest development, the lawmakers reiterated their call for the Senate to convene as an impeachment court without delay.
