Five pineapple plantation workers died after the hauler truck they were riding crashed into a residential fence in Barangay Lurugan, Valencia City, Bukidnon on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, authorities said.
Initial investigation showed the workers had just finished harvesting pineapples and were on their way home when the truck they were riding struck the fence of a house along a downhill road. Police said the vehicle may have experienced brake failure before the crash.
All victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, but five were declared dead. Three others survived and are receiving treatment.
Among those killed were three women and two men, according to authorities. Of the injured, two are women while the identity of the third victim has yet to be confirmed after being taken to a hospital in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the truck’s brakes malfunctioned, especially since the accident occurred along a descending portion of the road. The Valencia City Police continue to gather evidence and statements to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
