Two men died while another was injured after a hauler truck collided with a pick-up vehicle along Circumferential Road in Hacienda Tibay Lopez, Barangay Efigenio Lizares, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, May 3.
According to Police Major Rhazl Jim Jocson, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police, the fatalities were identified as Nilo, 38, the pick-up driver, and Ronjun, one of his passengers. Both were residents of San Carlos City.
Another companion, Paul, 42, also from San Carlos City, was seriously injured and remains confined at a local hospital.
The driver of the hauler truck, identified as Galy, 50, a resident of Sagay City, is also receiving medical treatment.
Initial investigation revealed that the pick-up and the truck were traveling in opposite directions. The truck reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle when it lost control and crashed into the oncoming pick-up.
Authorities have yet to confirm if charges will be filed as the investigation continues. Police are also coordinating with the hospital for updates on the survivors’ conditions.
The incident has reignited concerns over reckless overtaking and the enforcement of road safety protocols, especially along provincial highways prone to high-speed driving.
Officials have reminded motorists to strictly observe traffic laws to prevent further fatalities caused by negligence on the road.
