16-year-old alleged gunman linked to Cebu City slaying

Two minors, including a 16-year-old alleged gunman, were rescued by police following the fatal shooting of a woman in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City, on May 21, authorities said.

The Cebu City Police Office also arrested an 18-year-old alleged lookout in connection with the killing. The shooting occurred at around 5 p.m. on Thursday.

According to investigators, the alleged gunman and another lookout are both 16 years old and residents of Barangay Sambag 2. The third suspect, identified only by the alias “Tino,” 18, is a resident of Barangay Calamba.

During a press conference on May 22, Cebu City Police Office Director George Ylanan said the female victim had not yet been identified as of Friday afternoon.

Ylanan said CCTV footage played a crucial role in the rapid identification and apprehension of the suspects. Through backtracking operations, investigators monitored a man whose actions before and after the incident appeared suspicious. Authorities said the lead eventually helped them identify and locate the other individuals allegedly involved in the crime.

Based on the initial investigation, police believe the killing may have been connected to illegal drugs. Investigators also reported that the victim’s cellphone was allegedly taken after the shooting.

Authorities further disclosed that the alleged 16-year-old gunman had reportedly entered and exited Operation Second Chance in Barangay Kalunasan twice.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing as they continue gathering evidence and determining the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are also working to establish the identity of the victim and verify the motive behind the killing.
