₱48.6 million worth of illegal drugs destroyed in Davao City

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed more than ₱48.6 million worth of seized, confiscated and surrendered illegal drugs from Regions 11 and 13 in Davao City on June 17 as part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The destruction was carried out at around 9 a.m. through a thermal incinerator at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes along J. Camus Extension corner Jose Abad Santos Street.

Authorities said illegal drugs worth ₱48,609,508.04 were destroyed during the activity.

The items included 5,505.1667 grams of shabu valued at ₱37.44 million, 13,279.3527 grams of marijuana worth ₱1.59 million, 0.9467 grams of cocaine valued at ₱5,017, 494 ecstasy tablets worth ₱839,800, 162 vape products valued at ₱11,900, and other dangerous drugs worth ₱1,389.32 from Region 11.

Meanwhile, drugs destroyed from Region 13 included 1,267.3105 grams of shabu valued at ₱8.62 million, 832.7827 grams of marijuana worth ₱99,933.92, and three ecstasy tablets valued at ₱5,100.

PDEA said the destruction was conducted in accordance with Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, to ensure the proper disposal of drug evidence.

The activity was witnessed by representatives from the judiciary, the Department of Justice, the Public Attorney’s Office, civil society organizations, local officials and members of the media.
