Tech giant Apple will provide 170,000 MacBook Neo laptops to the Department of Education (DepEd) for teachers, school personnel, and students in public schools nationwide.
Apple CEO John Ternus confirmed the agreement during the company’s quarterly earnings call on Monday.
The deal marks Apple’s largest-ever institutional education contract for Mac computers and the biggest deployment of its budget-friendly laptop line.
Under the partnership, the laptops will be distributed to more than 16,400 public schools through the DepEd’s Computerization Program.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said equipping teachers with adequate and modern learning tools is a crucial investment in the future of students and in improving the quality of education.
Aside from the laptops, teachers will also receive continued support and professional development through the Apple Education Community, which offers teaching resources and lesson plans aligned with the national curriculum.
