BAN Toxics urges removal of unauthorized squishy toys over potential health risks

Toxic chemicals watchdog BAN Toxics has called for the removal of unauthorized squishy toys resembling steamed buns from the market over potential health risks to children.

The call follows public health advisories issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) against the purchase and use of Squishy Delicious Blue and Squishy Delicious Green, which have not received the required Certificate of Product Notification (CPN).

The FDA said it cannot guarantee the products’ quality and safety because they have not undergone the required notification process. The toys may also pose risks of injury, choking, or suffocation due to small or broken parts.

According to BAN Toxics, similar toys have been recalled in the United Kingdom and the United States after excessive levels of benzene, a hazardous chemical, were detected.

Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through Administrative Order No. 2026-29, prohibits the use of benzene in toys and other children’s products.

BAN Toxics urged consumers to avoid purchasing unauthorized squishy toys to help protect children from potential health hazards.
