Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered Ohayami Trans and Victory Liner to explain alleged violations found during inspections of their Manila bus terminals ahead of the expected passenger surge during Undas.
The inspections came two days after Malacañang announced Dizon’s return to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Dizon first inspected Ohayami Trans in Sampaloc, where he found facilities that did not meet prescribed standards. The terminal’s restrooms were small, the men’s restroom had no toilet, and the passenger waiting area was inadequate, according to the report.
He next visited GV Florida Transport Inc., where he found no violations. However, he asked management to install additional electric fans in areas not reached by ceiling fans.
Dizon’s final stop was Victory Liner, where he found that the restrooms had no running water and the toilet flushes were broken. The terminal’s passenger waiting area was also too small.
Following the inspections, the DOTr will issue show-cause orders to Ohayami Trans and Victory Liner, requiring the companies to explain the deficiencies identified at their respective terminals.
The two operators will be given 60 days to address the problems and comply with the department’s requirements.
Dizon warned that the terminals could face closure if they fail to comply within the prescribed period.
The inspections were conducted to ensure that bus terminals are prepared for the expected increase in passenger traffic during Undas, when Filipinos travel to visit the graves of departed relatives.
The DOTr’s action focuses on restroom conditions, passenger waiting areas and other facility standards that affect commuters using the terminals.
