Four members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters’ (BIFF) Karialan faction returned to the government on Oct. 20 in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, citing poverty and uncertainty in their lives.
The four surrendered four firearms, including two homemade rocket-propelled grenade launchers with three rounds of ammunition and two M16 rifles.
According to the group’s acting leader, their situation became more difficult after their leaders were killed. He also cited disruptions to their children’s education caused by repeatedly moving from one place to another.
The return was facilitated through an initiative of the local government and the military. Authorities said the surrendered firearms would undergo demilitarization.
Mayor Bai Maruja A. Mastura welcomed the four members’ decision, saying their return was significant because they had chosen to embrace peace.
As part of assistance for their new beginning, the four received food and financial aid from the local government. The assistance was intended to help them rebuild their lives with their families.
The return took place in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, on the afternoon of Oct. 20, 2026.
The report did not provide further details about the identities of the four members, the specific amount of financial assistance or the timeline for their reintegration. Via Jom Dimapalao | 89.3 Brigada News FM Cotabato City
