Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chairman Alhadj Murad Ebrahim has emphasized the importance of moral governance in the Bangsamoro region as the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) marked its 14th anniversary on Oct. 15.
In his anniversary message, Ebrahim underscored the need to strengthen government institutions and uphold integrity, accountability and justice to ensure that the Bangsamoro people benefit from the gains of their long struggle for peace.
Signed on Oct. 15, 2012, the FAB marked a historic milestone in efforts to resolve the Bangsamoro question through dialogue, mutual trust and a shared commitment to a political settlement.
The agreement also served as the foundation for the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law and the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Ebrahim said the agreement demonstrated that decades of conflict could give way to peace through sincere dialogue and cooperation.
He also recognized the sacrifices of the Bangsamoro people and those who contributed to the region’s pursuit of peace, self-determination and lasting stability.
While acknowledging the progress achieved since the agreement was signed, Ebrahim stressed that more work remains to ensure that autonomy translates into meaningful benefits for the people.
He called for stronger institutions, accountability and justice, emphasizing the importance of moral governance in public service.
Ebrahim said the Bangsamoro government must serve all residents regardless of tribe, belief or community.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to democratic engagement, peaceful dialogue, good governance and collective action toward a better future for the Bangsamoro people.
As the region commemorates the agreement’s 14th anniversary, Ebrahim called on the current generation and those who will follow to uphold the gains of the peace process and continue working toward a just, progressive and peaceful Bangsamoro.
His message highlighted the continuing importance of institutional strengthening, public accountability and inclusive governance in sustaining the region’s pursuit of lasting peace. Via Jom Dimapalao |
