Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has clarified the water leak incident inside an LRT-1 train carriage that went viral on social media.
According to LRMC, the air-conditioning system’s drain valve unexpectedly broke before reaching its expected three- to five-year lifespan.
The company said the damaged valve was immediately replaced after the issue was identified.
As part of measures to prevent a similar incident, LRMC said it will increase inspections of the air-conditioning drain valves from every 10,000 kilometers to every 5,000 kilometers.
The company is also currently working to replace the valves across its entire train fleet.
