Filipina swimmer Jie Angela Mikaela Talosig marked her international debut with a bronze medal at the 4th Southeast Asia Open Water Championships in Boracay, Aklan.
Talosig, 20, finished third in the women’s 20-years-and-above division after clocking 1:18:57 in the event.
The De La Salle University varsity swimmer said she initially joined the competition to gain international experience, making her podium finish a pleasant surprise.
Indonesia’s Nadya Sirasawati claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:07:23, while Thailand’s Musikul Hirunhas settled for silver at 1:09:15.
Another Filipino swimmer, 12-year-old Julia Jewels Pobleto, also captured bronze in the girls’ 12-13 3km event.
The Philippine Sports Commission said the tournament provided local swimmers with valuable international exposure while supporting the country’s sports tourism efforts.
