DepEd assures psychosocial support after Ateneo de Zamboanga shooting

The Department of Education is focusing on the mental well-being of those affected by the shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga Grade School in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

DepEd said it is coordinating with mental health partners to provide Psychological First Aid and psychosocial support to students, families and school personnel who need assistance following the incident.

The agency also expressed deep concern over the shooting and said it stands with the Ateneo de Zamboanga community amid the incident.

The shooting occurred inside the school campus in Barangay Tumaga.

Two students were confirmed dead following the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Scene of the Crime Operatives and other law enforcement personnel are already at the location as the investigation continues.

DepEd said its psychosocial support efforts are intended for members of the school community who may need assistance following the incident.
