PNP officer shoots fellow police, civilian in Cavite; 2 dead

Two people were killed and another was injured after a shooting incident involving a Philippine National Police personnel in Maragondon, Cavite, according to the Police Regional Office 4A.

The incident involved PNP personnel assigned in Cavite who allegedly shot fellow police personnel and a civilian. Three people were identified as victims, with two declared dead while the third remains under medical treatment.

PRO 4A Acting Regional Director PBGen Dominic L. Baccay said the Cavite Police Provincial Office was immediately directed to conduct a thorough, impartial and evidence-based investigation into the incident.

The investigation aims to establish the facts surrounding the shooting and determine any possible criminal or administrative liability.

PRO 4A expressed its deepest sympathies to the families of the two victims who died and said it continues to monitor the condition of the surviving victim.

The police regional office also said appropriate administrative and operational measures have been implemented in accordance with existing policies and procedures.

The chief of police concerned has already been relieved from his post following the incident.

Meanwhile, the PNP personnel identified as the alleged perpetrator is currently under the custody of the Maragondon Municipal Police Station.

The personnel will undergo inquest proceedings as part of the regular criminal process and in accordance with the law and established procedures.

PRO 4A emphasized that no one is above the law and that police personnel are not exempt from accountability.

The regional office said it will not tolerate misconduct, abuse of authority or unlawful acts that could compromise the integrity of the police organization and erode public trust.

PRO 4A also stressed that any personnel found liable will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law, while due process and fairness will be observed for all parties involved.
