The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of an 8-year-old Grade 3 student following an alleged incident inside a public school.
According to initial police records, the alleged incident occurred on July 17 and was formally reported by the child’s mother on July 22. The student later died while undergoing medical treatment at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
Police investigators are coordinating with school administrators, education officials and other government agencies to gather evidence, establish the timeline of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
Police Colonel Peter Bauzon Madria, director of the DCPO, extended condolences to the victim’s family and said authorities are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation.
The case drew public attention after the victim’s grandmother posted on Facebook, alleging that the child had been punched by a classmate inside the school campus.
According to the family’s account, the child developed a fever and complained of a severe headache in the early hours of July 21. The student was later taken to a hospital, where a CT scan reportedly showed bleeding inside the head and a ruptured blood vessel. The child eventually fell into a coma and later died despite medical treatment.
The family has appealed to parents to take seriously any reports their children make about incidents inside schools.
As of Wednesday, police have not confirmed whether the student’s death was directly caused by the alleged assault. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing to determine the facts and establish any possible liability.
The DCPO also urged the public and the media to refrain from spreading speculation or unverified information while the investigation is underway and to respect the privacy of the grieving family.
