Wing van carrying construction materials crashes into house in Cebu

A wing van carrying 7,000 kilograms of construction materials crashed into the fence of a house after its brakes reportedly failed along a downhill curved road in Barangay Gaas, Balamban, Cebu, on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m., leaving the front portion of the truck heavily damaged. Some of the construction materials it was transporting were scattered across the road.

The truck had traveled from Escalante City, Negros Occidental, and was bound for Bohol to deliver its cargo.

According to the driver and his truck boy, they were using a navigation application after becoming separated from another vehicle traveling with them. The app directed them onto a route passing through Balamban.

Based on the initial investigation, the wing van was descending a curved section of the road when its brakes reportedly malfunctioned.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the fence of a house before falling into a roadside canal.

The driver, identified only as Winnie, 32, and his truck boy, Benzer, 21, sustained injuries in the crash. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Visitation Seno, the caretaker of the house struck by the truck, told Brigada News FM Cebu that he was startled by a loud crashing sound. When he went outside to check, he saw the driver and the truck boy already covered in blood.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
