Two people were killed and two others were injured after unidentified gunmen ambushed a vehicle in Barangay Salvacion, Albuera, Leyte on the morning of June 15, authorities said.
According to the Albuera Municipal Police Station, one of those killed was the live-in partner of Barangay Captain Walter Taripe of Barangay Salvacion.
Police said another passenger survived the attack without sustaining any injuries.
Initial investigation showed that the victims had come from the residence of Taripe and were on their way to the town center when armed suspects suddenly attacked their vehicle.
Authorities said the gunmen fired at the vehicle from an elevated area along the roadside using a high-powered firearm.
The attack left two passengers dead and two others wounded. Emergency responders immediately brought the injured victims to a hospital for treatment.
Police have yet to identify the suspects behind the ambush and have not released information regarding a possible motive.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.
The Albuera Municipal Police Station said efforts are underway to determine the identities of the attackers and establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
No arrests have been reported as of this writing.
Authorities urged anyone with information related to the incident to coordinate with local police as the investigation continues.
The ambush remains under active investigation.
