Teacher dies after alleged muriatic acid incident in Bacolod

A 38-year-old teacher died after allegedly being forced to drink muriatic acid by a companion during a drinking session in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, on the night of June 12, police said.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Boy,” was a teacher at a local high school. The suspect, identified as “Juan,” is a 24-year-old graduating college student.

According to Police Capt. Jay-R Reyes, chief of Police Station 7, the victim had invited the suspect to his residence for a drinking session. Reyes said the suspect claimed that it was not the first time the two had gathered in that manner.

Authorities said neighbors heard a commotion coming from the house and immediately alerted barangay officials. Barangay watchmen then sought assistance from the police.

Responding officers later arrived at the scene and launched an operation to locate the suspect.

Police said the suspect allegedly attempted to evade arrest by climbing into the ceiling of the house. He was later apprehended by authorities.

Investigators are currently examining several possible motives behind the incident. One of the angles being considered is an alleged debt owed by the suspect to the victim, according to police.

Authorities have filed a murder complaint against the suspect in connection with the case.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing as they await the results of the victim’s autopsy. The findings are expected to help determine the exact cause of death and provide additional details relevant to the case.

Officials have not released further information as the investigation continues.

The suspect remains under police custody while legal proceedings move forward. Authorities said additional evidence and witness accounts will be evaluated as part of the continuing investigation into the incident.
