A police officer assigned to the Malolos City Police Station has been relieved from his post after a viral video showed him allegedly assaulting a woman believed to be his wife.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed the man repeatedly punching the woman until she fell to the ground and writhed in pain.
Authorities later identified the man as a police corporal assigned to the Malolos City Police Station.
In a statement, the Malolos City Police Station confirmed that the officer had already been removed from his position while an investigation is ongoing.
Police authorities also temporarily confiscated the officer’s issued firearm and Philippine National Police identification card to prevent their possible use in intimidation, threats or further abuse during the investigation.
The Malolos police strongly condemned all forms of violence, particularly violence against women, and emphasized that the Philippine National Police does not tolerate violations of its laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) said the officer’s days in service were already numbered.
The agency assured the public that the police officer would be held accountable and that justice would be immediately pursued for the victim.
NAPOLCOM also appealed to the victim to coordinate with authorities and assured her that its offices remain open to assist in the case.
The commission further directed its regional director and regional office to locate the victim and gather complete details regarding the incident to help immediately resolve the case.
The incident continues to draw strong reactions online as authorities pursue administrative and possible legal actions against the officer.
