Truck plows into vehicles in Ormoc City, kills 5 including 1-year-old boy

Five people were killed, including a one-year-old boy, after a truck crashed into a motorcycle and a multicab in Barangay Cabulihan, Ormoc City, at around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.

According to Police Corporal Romariou Rostata of the City Traffic Enforcement Unit, both the motorcycle and the multicab were traveling in the same direction, while the truck was heading in the opposite direction.

The truck suddenly swerved and rammed into the motorcycle and the multicab.

The motorcycle driver, Mark, 20, and his one-year-old son Kairo died on the spot. Mark’s live-in partner, Mary, 19, succumbed to injuries around 2:30 a.m. the following day.

Engineer Jumar and his wife Maria Laurente, who were riding the multicab, also died from the impact. Their three children, aged 12, 8, and 6, were injured and are currently confined at a hospital.

Police have taken the truck driver, identified only as alias Aroso, 48, of Kananga, Leyte, into custody. He tested negative for alcohol.

Rostata said the driver will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and multiple damage to property.
