Man goes live on Facebook, fires gun after girlfriend allegedly cheats

 A man who went live on Facebook while brandishing a firearm inside a motel room was successfully rescued by Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Mabolo Police Station personnel on Monday night, January 27, 2025.

The incident occurred at Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City, after authorities received a report around midnight. Police Major Romeo Caacoy Jr., chief of Mabolo Police Station, led the negotiation to calm the man, who was on the motel terrace holding a gun. The operation lasted nearly two hours.

According to Police Major Caacoy, the man was distraught after allegedly discovering that his live-in partner of seven years had cheated on him. The man, a criminology graduate described by his family as serious and responsible, could not accept the betrayal.

Foam mats were prepared outside the motel as a precautionary measure in case the situation escalated. Fortunately, the negotiation ended peacefully, and the man was taken into custody.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect will face charges for illegal possession of firearms in relation to the COMELEC Gun Ban and Alarm and Scandal.

The incident highlights the dangers of emotional distress and the misuse of firearms, especially during the election gun ban period.
