Former President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that his popularity has waned significantly now that he is retired from presidency.
The former president made the statement in a press conference held in Davao City on Monday evening.
This was Duterte’s response when asked if he is going to call for mass mobilizations now that his daughter Vice President Sara Duterte face probe on alleged confidential funds misuse.
Duterte said the magic they are talking about has long been gone now that he is a retired president.
“Ang tao hindi na nakikinig sa akin yan kasi wala na akong power, matanda na ako naga-cane na ako kay last time ako nagmotor hindi ko na talaga kaya. ” Duterte said.
The statement was made amid the mounting calls from the Duterte diehard supporters to stage a ‘people’s power’ to topple down the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Followers of the Dutertes accused President Marcos and his allies of persecuting the vice president as she is projected to be a strong contender in the next presidential election.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez though has vehemently denied the accusations saying the lawmakers are just trying to find the truth in their congressional probe.
Duterte is confident that his daughter can get away with all these issues.
” Si Inday kaya nya yan, insignificant masyado yan. Kasuhan man nila yan hindi talaga makukulong yan. Hindi magpapakulong yan patayin mo man yan” Duterte stressed.
